Status: reported by a communist defector and assessed as credible by the late Garnett “Bill” Bell, a PIP senior advisor. Unverified. The identifications below are possibilities raised by the source and by analysis, not established identifications.
A communist defector reported that “five Americans remained alive in captivity” in early 1974, held near the Can Dang Bridge in Phuoc Ninh district, Tay Ninh province.
The defector, a security guard who visited the camp at least five times, identified one prisoner as “Mr. Benny,” possibly a reference to Bennie Lee Dexter, captured in 1966. Another American was linked to Army Sgt. 1st Class Dallas Pridemore, abducted in 1968. A third may have been McKinley Nolan, an Army deserter who went to Cambodia and was reported dead there.
Leading POW/MIA expert Garnett “Bill” Bell (1943-2025), a senior advisor to the project, concluded the defector’s account was credible after analyzing wartime records and interviewing witnesses.
What remains unresolved
None of the five men has been identified. “Mr. Benny” is a name a guard remembered; the connection to Bennie Lee Dexter is an inference from that name. The links to Pridemore and Nolan are analytical possibilities. Were any of these men in Camp C-53?

Please contact us if you can help with any of the following.
- The fates of the five Americans reported held at Camp C-53 in 1974, from camp officials Bay Xich, Quang Minh, Nam Tam or Ba Soan, or from the defector who gave the original account.
- Contact with camp interpreter Tran Le Linh, last reported in Australia.
- Accounts from anyone who lived near the Can Dang Bridge in Phuoc Ninh district, Tay Ninh province, from 1973 to 1976.
A defector reported five Americans alive at C-53 a year after the prisoner releases. Were they Dexter, Pridemore and others the United States carried as prisoners? Were some deserters? What was done with them when the war ended?

- người đã cung cấp lời khai ban đầu;
- bà Lê Linh, nữ phiên dịch viên của trại, được cho là đã sang Úc;
- những người từng làm việc tại trại;
